When I first moved to Bristol, I was a billy no mates, so often spent my time strolling around the harbour, getting lost, taking in the sights and marvelling at the restaurants and buildings (which I really wanted to have a peek inside!)
One building on my list of places to visit has been the Bristol Harbour hotel, located on Corn street, a stone’s throw away from the hustle and bustle of the harbour. Formally a bank, this building was recently transformed into a Hotel and spa.
Before Christmas, I received an invite to an evening of pampering at the Hotels spa, along with some lovely fellow bloggers.
On arrival, the first thing I noticed about the Harbour hotel is the quirky decor, high ceilings and interesting artwork. Despite the grand surroundings, there is a calm and unpretentious vibe, which continues down into the basement where the HarSpa and gym are located. We had a mini tour and a look at the spa facilities which includes a sauna, hydro pool, steam room and gym.
We discussed the spas new Espa range of lotions and treatments. I was offered an express treatment of my choice, Although I was all set on having a nail polish, I decided to be a bit more adventurous and go with an express head massage. I was led down the winding corridor to a relaxing therapy room for my treatment. I can sometimes get a little awkward in touchy-feely situations, but the therapist was really lovely and made me feel at ease working her magic, so much so that I didn’t actually want to sit back up again…
I left feeling refreshed and looking forward to my return.
A week later I returned in full gym gear, ready for a workout in a… bank vault? Yes really. I’ve worked out in some curious spaces but this was a first for me. The gym is snug but has all of the equipment needed to get a good workout. I attended the gym on a Tuesday evening and was pleasantly surprised to find only two other fellow gym goers, the hotel’s residents were too busy working up a sweat in the steam room rather in the gym, I don’t blame them! Throughout the spa, there are ample amounts of fruit infused water at my disposal. Small details like this are something we can all appreciate, especially after a workout! I must admit, I felt healthier from just stepping into the place.
When using the spa facilities, slippers, towels and fluffy robes are included at no extra cost. As well as the mood-lit pool, you have a hydrotherapy pool with pressure jets to ease those tired muscles. There’s even a cosy darkened room you can go chill in to read or probably in my case, have a nap. If I had a bigger house and the funds, I’d create a room just like this one, purely dedicated to a huge sofa I could sprawl across.
Bristol Harbour Hotel caters to those who appreciate quirky decor in a luxe environment. Upstairs you can find the opulent Gold bar offering creative cocktails, big cosy chairs in an ambiently lit vibrant surrounding. The unique building offers a new experience at every turn, it’s easy to completely forget the busy city just outside.
The Bristol Harbour Hotel and spa is the perfect place to unwind, a hidden gem in the heart of the city, If it’s a relaxing break with a difference you’re after then you most definitely won’t be disappointed.
Pssst! The Bristol HarSpa is offering 20% off all treatments through January. That’s one way to beat the January blues.
