4 ways to make extra money for Christmas

The end of the year is almost upon us, and we all know what that means – Christmas! Some of you may be super organised and ecstatic for the holidays. You got your Christmas shopping done throughout the year and if you’re really clever, you got most of it in the sales 😉 But for most of us, this means frantic last minute shopping and struggling to make the money pot stretch across friends and family. Christmas day is scary when you’re an adult. The expectations, the rushing around and trying to keep everyone happy.

Since I’ve left a full-time job for a part-time, I’ve been more frugal than ever and become a whole lot savvier with my finances. If you’re struggling with extra Christmas money, below are some of the things I’ve tried and love:

Have you mastered a skill? Are you creative? Can you offer your expertise on a subject you are well educated in? You might speak a second language, have crazy art skills, be clever with a needle and thread, or have a captivating success story you can share and turn into coaching.

Dog walking and sitting

I joined Tailster.com when I quit my old job and spared up some free time. I love dogs more than anything! So was mind blown at the possibility of getting paid to take care of them. If you love dogs, this is a win, win situation. It’s not a scam, you do get paid – It is 100% legit. It’s completely free to join, the only catch is that Tailster takes 15% commision from every booking you make.

You create a profile on the site and fill in a questionnaire, this is to make sure you have read and understood the terms and conditions. It’s also important that you apply to your council for a dog boarding license. Once you are accepted, you can download the carer app to your phone and start applying to care/walk/house sit and board pets. Apart from the pure happiness of getting to care for dogs, the reason I love this app is that I can arrange bookings to coincide with my days off. It’s super flexible and fun.

Do something freelance

This can be ANYTHING. More and more businesses are seeking freelance professionals to collaborate with. Can you create logos, Do you speak another language? Are you a writer, copywriter or blogger? Are you a photoshop wizard? What about web design? Can you retouch photographs for a photographer or create wedding invitations. The list is endless. Post an ad on Gumtree, contact businesses pitching an idea, you could even set up your own free website showcasing your work and services.

Sell your craft on a handmade site such as Etsy or Folksy

I’ve been a loyal customer of Etsy for many years, in that time I’ve purchased some brilliant products and gifts (and some disastrous ones!) I’ve also sold products through Etsy myself (costume pieces). Can you create a quality product? Are you an artist? Can you create beautiful typography art? You can also sell in printable PDF form, which cuts out material costs.

So there we have it. Don’t let your skills and talents go to waste, utilise them and you could find yourself making some extra £’s before Christmas.
